Barcelona - Beach, Boobs and Body Surfing

After a hectic day arriving in Barcelona, today was all about relaxing and making the most of our location right by the beach.

Our cabin is the size of my Whare iti - about 30sqm complete with 2 bedrooms, a kitchen and bathroom so the “lounge area” is pretty tiny.  Despite this - we’ve spent the morning chilling out, eating, reading, playing cards and doing school work.  Turns out Kaia is quite good at Sudoku.

There is only one lobster in our family from yesterday and that’s me.  So I’m covered up at the beach and Gareth and the kids are straight into the ocean.  It's a long stretch of beach and the incline into the water at near high tide is quite steep.  As you wade out the waves smash into you from the underlying sand bars, and the undertow is a weird right swerving wave back out to sea.

Gareth decided this was the beach to teach the kids to body surf.  Zach said he had body surfed before so didn’t see the big deal.  After today, he has now properly body surfed and he gets the reason everyone loves the feeling.  He described it as being inside the crashing part of the wave being rumbled forward. After Kaia drank too much sea water from her surfing, she came into to play in the sand while Zach and Gareth went back out.

Meanwhile I had forgotten that Europeans aren’t fans of tan lines so all the boobs were out today proudly walking up and down the beachfront.

Two hours in the water and now I have Zach joining me in the lobster club, his cheeks are a rosy red and we all have had a good dose of Vitamin D.

Back to the cabin for new card games to be learnt, Zach and Gareth find Rummy and Zach proceeds to annihilate me in the game.  Kaia as usual, can’t focus for long enough to have her own cards, so is the boss of my hand…..

Next is Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell so it will be a late one for us.  Thankfully we have one more full day of just hanging at the beach before we go to Marseille to meet up with Ines (our first au pair) for a local introduction to the area.

Lobsters 😥😎oops, what happened to "slip, slop, slap and wrap"? I'm impressed that Kaia can do Sudoku. I have never understood it, good on her. You have all been pretty full on so chilling by the beach is a great idea. Recharging the batteries. xxx

Why Europe this year?

You only live once (I think.....) and after 3 years of Covid, and spending time in our own backyard travelling, its time to expand those life experiences for us, and for our tamariki.
